Bios of Arco Performers

Andrea Noteboom is an active violinist in the Twin Cities area. She has performed with the Minnesota Opera, the Minnesota Sinfonia, St Olaf College Choir and Orchestras, MacPhail Center for Music, Arco Strings (of which she is a founding member), and various free-lance groups. She has been on the faculty of MacPhail Center for Music for 12 years where she teaches both Suzuki Violin and in the Ascension School Intercity Program. Andrea received a double degree in Violin Performance and Psychology from St. Olaf College, where she was Concert Master of the Orchestra. She received a double masters degree in Violin Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy from The Cleveland Institute of Music. She has participated in Bravo, Madeline Island, and Aspen Summer Music Festivals and received awards from YPSCA, Thursday Musical, The University of Wisonsin-Eau Claire, and Schubert Club. She is passionate about both teaching and performing!

Violinist Katie Bast performs regularly throughout the Twin Cities. As a faculty member at MacPhail Center for Music, Katie has performed on their “Spotlight Series”, numerous recitals and faculty ensembles. Katie received her Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance at Southern Methodist University and her Master of Music in violin performance and Suzuki pedagogy at the University of Minnesota.
In the Twin Cities community, Katie has served as principal second violin with the Exultate Chamber Orchestra, is a founding member of the free-lance group “Arco Strings”, and performs in other ensembles whenever she has the opportunity. In the past, she was a member of the Irving Symphony (TX), the Waukesha Symphony (WI) and Milwaukee's Skylight Opera Theater. In her youth, Katie performed as a soloist with the Southwest Florida Symphony on several occasions.

Cellist Andrea French has been a faculty member of MacPhail Center for Music since the fall of 2009. She has been a judge for Solo and Ensemble Contest of Northern Colorado, and chamber music coach for CelloFest at D.U. She has also been an active recitalist and teacher in the music community of Colorado for the past ten years, and has played with the Fort Collins, Greeley, and Cheyenne Symphonies. Andrea has performed in master classes with David Ying, Janos Starker, and Yo-Yo Ma, and has played with over 20 bands such as Rise Against, Drive By, Coles Whalen, and Strange Condition. She has recorded for Wind Up Records, Warner Bros., and Universal.
Andrea received her Master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado and her Bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University, both in cello performance. She received her long-term Suzuki training in cello with Carol Tarr and violin with James Maurer at the University of Denver and has taught Suzuki group cello and violin classes with Longmont Suzuki Strings and Denver Talent Education. Andrea has studied with Alan Smith, James Fittz, and Richard Slavich.

_Cellist Sarah Chelgren Duffy received
a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education from St. Olaf College and
her Master’s degree in music education at Northwestern University in
Evanston, Illinois. Sarah is in her second year as orchestra director at
Edina High School after teaching high school, middle school, and
elementary orchestras in Robbinsdale Area Schools for ten years.
An accomplished cellist, Sarah has studied
with Peter Howard, David Carter, and Faith Farr. In addition, she
regularly freelances in the Twin Cities and is the assistant principal
cellist of the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra. Sarah is actively
involved in music education organizations and she is the past-president
of the Minnesota String and Orchestra Teachers’ Association (MNSOTA).

A sought-after teacher and performer, Adrianna Rossmiller O'Brien is a versatile and accomplished cellist. During her undergraduate years, Adrianna studied with renowned pedagogue Phyllis Young at the University of Texas at Austin. She graduated from U.T. with honors and a Bachelor’s Degree in Cello Performance in 2002. As a graduate student at the Hartt School in Connecticut, Adrianna was a member of the elite chamber music program 20/20, preparing and performing several ensemble recitals each semester, with coaching from members of the Miami and Emerson String Quartets. Also while at Hartt, Adrianna studied with cellist Terry King and master cello teacher Pamela Devenport to earn a Master’s Degree in Cello Performance with an emphasis in Suzuki Pedagogy. Working with Ms. Devenport and studying Dr. Suzuki’s philosophy ignited a passion for teaching that led her to relocate to Minneapolis in 2004 to become a faculty member at MacPhail Center for Music. Currently, Adrianna maintains a private cello studio through Breck School in Golden Valley and Mayflower Community Church in Minneapolis. She performs throughout the Twin Cities as a member of various chamber ensembles and plays regularly with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra.
